About Us

The foodbank in Burntisland was first started in 2013 by the 2 owners of a local café, Potter About.

The café was already part of the Suspended Coffee Movement when it became apparent that people were needing more than a pre-paid coffee and bacon roll. It was a struggle to keep up with demand, so when Kirkcaldy Foodbank offered to take over the food bank it was a no brainer.

Potter About closed in July 2018 and the food bank moved to a local premises run by Burntisland Parish Church. Here the church ran a free community café alongside the foodbank and accommodated around 20-30 clients a week.[...]

Burntisland and Kinghorn Foodbank’s Mission is to provide dignified and respectful support to those in the area facing food poverty. We believe no-one should go hungry.

Katie has 20 years experience in the Statutory sector of Social Work and now works with a National Charity. She has lived in Burntisland for many years and loves walks, reading and spending time with her children and small dog.

Ruth was brought up in Burntisland and returned to the town in 2021. She works in strategy and transformation for the civil service.

Secretary

After a career in administration Elaine retired and retrained as a priest. Her second retirement brought her to Burntisland in 2022 where voluntary activities now include being a priest in the Scottish Episcopal Church.
